Girl’s Inc

I have been noticing in the last year that sociologists, economists and politicians are finally realizing that “Saving the Worlds Women,” the title of the recent cover story in the New York Times Magazine, http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/23/magazine/23Wo, is crucial to solving our world's economic and social problems. This is why for the past ten years I have supported the Santa Fe branch of the national organization called Girl’s Inc. This program empowers girls to use their voices and teaches them valuable life skills at a very young age so that as they grow into womanhood they will do so with confidence and wisdom.
Santa Fe has very diverse income levels with families who have the lowest incomes tending to settle on our south side. With the support of the community, the City of Santa Fe recently completed a new Girl's Inc center to serve these south side girls. I recently had a tour of the facility and was very impressed.
